Council’s Fit for Free initiative boosts health and wellbeing for hundreds of residents

Comments Off on Council’s Fit for Free initiative boosts health and wellbeing for hundreds of residents

North Lincolnshire Council is celebrating the early success of its Fit for Free initiative, a health and well-being programme to support older residents, and individuals with learning disabilities, across the region.

Launched on 1 April 2025, the scheme offers eight weeks of complimentary off-peak access to swimming, gym facilities, and virtual fitness classes.

It is open to residents aged 66 and over and residents aged 16 and above with a learning disability, and aims to:

• Encourage more active lifestyles
• Enhance physical and mental well-being
• Reduce social isolation among target groups

Between April and July, the programme has already seen 788 participants across seven leisure sites.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Fit for Free is about more than just fitness – it’s about opportunity, connection, and giving people the tools to live healthier, happier lives.

“We made a promise to support our older residents through the cost of living challenges, and this initiative is part of keeping that promise. By removing financial barriers, we’re helping people stay active, connected and well, physically and mentally.”

Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities (rural), added: “This initiative is also a vital part of our wider plan to support residents with complex needs, including those with learning disabilities, to live more independently.

“By investing in accessible health and well-being opportunities, we’re empowering people to take control of their lives and build confidence in their communities.”

For more information on accessing the Fit for Free initiative go to the NL Active Fit for Free page on our website.

Grimsby XL Comedy Club

Comments Off on Grimsby XL Comedy Club

Chuckl. proudly presents Grimsby XL Comedy Club at The Grimsby Auditorium.

Tonight’s show features the magnificent Ed Byrne, Angelos Epithemiou, Felicity Ward and Fiona Allen.

Get ready for the very best in comedy. All of the acts at Grimsby XL Comedy Club (including the ‘support acts’) are the very best in the business. Many of them have TV credits, including Live at the Apollo, so you can rest assured that you’ll have the very best comedy club experience.

Three big headliners and one of the best MCs in the country packed into a single show for a night to remember!

Ed Byrne

As seen on: Mock The Week, Graham Norton Show, QI, Live At The Apollo, Top Gear, Have I Got News For You, Dara & Ed’s Road to Mandalay, Comic Relief Bake Off.

“Comedy’s holy grail… Go see!” ★★★★ The Sunday Times
“Byrne is at the top of his game” ★★★★ The Sunday Telegraph

A household name, Ed Byrne’s TV career spans numerous hit shows, but his live stand-up remains unmissable. A master of observational comedy, he’s a must-see act.

Angelos Epithemiou

As seen on: Shooting Stars, Dave’s One Night Stand, The Angelos Epithemiou Show.

A cult favourite, Angelos is a brilliantly shambolic and unpredictable comic creation. Think Little Britain meets Vic & Bob and get on board. Brought to life by Dan Renton SkinnerAngelos’ creator has also starred in The Spy Who Dumped Me, Friday Night Dinner, and The Wrong Mans.

Felicity Ward

“A compelling and, yes, very funny lead” – The Guardian

An acclaimed Aussie comic now based in London, Felicity Ward brings high-energy storytelling and razor-sharp wit to every stage. She stars as Hannah Howard in The Office Australia, the franchise’s first female lead, and has wowed audiences on Live at the Apollo and in her Live at the BBC stand-up special. A fearless voice on mental health, Felicity blends raw honesty with brilliant punchlines—making her one of the most exciting acts in comedy today.

Fiona Allen

Strangers on A Train

Comments Off on Strangers on A Train
When a chance encounter between two strangers strikes a conversation about morality and having a better life, it soon turns sinister. The two soon make a deal for murder. Bruno will kill Guy’s unfaithful wife, whilst Guy kills Bruno’s hated father. Seeing as they do not know each other, surely, it is the perfect crime. Whilst Guy does not take the conversation seriously, one fateful phone call from Bruno sends the pair down  a spiralling path of deceit, paranoia and madness.

Kazabian are the official and number one tribute act to the mighty Kasabian, endorsed by the real thing and touring extensively around Britain and Europe.
Bearing an uncanny resemblance, they bring pounding beats and huge guitar-driven choruses to recreate Kasabian’s explosive stage show with unerring accuracy, delivering hits from across all seven albums.
